The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology annually gathers data on which vendors have certified technology used by providers that are participating in the Medicare EHR Incentive Program. Today’s list looks at hospitals; a separate list will detail rankings for vendors providing EHR technology to ambulatory providers.
ONC reports that, as of July 2016, 175 certified health IT vendors supply certified IT to the 4,474 non-federal acute care hospitals, including critical access hospitals, participating in the Medicare EHR Incentive Program. ONC says that six companies—Cerner, Meditech, Epic, Evident, McKesson and Medhost—supply 2014 certified technology to 92 percent of the hospitals that have reported 2014 technology. While most hospitals use only one vendor to participate, a sizable percentage of facilities use technology from more than one vendor to supply their electronic records needs.
ONC data is for health IT certified either according to criteria specified for 2014 edition of Health Information Technology Certification, or for HIT certified under the 2011 edition of criteria. Applications certified under either year’s criteria can be used to attest to meaningful use.
